500g very lean beef mince
cooking spray
1 x 410g can no-added-salt tomato puree
¼ cup (70g) no-added-salt tomato paste
1 teaspoon crushed garlic (in jar)
1 small onion diced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt-reduced beef stock powder
1 cup water
cracked pepper (optional)

Method

  1. Brown mince in a large saucepan that has been coated with cooking spray, drain well. Remove to plate.
  2. Using same saucepan mix in tomato puree, tomato paste, garlic, onion, oregano, stock powder and water. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes covered. Pepper to taste.
  3. Add mince to pot for 5 minutes.

Variation: For Chilli Con Carne add 1 whole can (410g) of Mexican chilli beans. Taste sauce, if you want it hotter add ¼ teaspoon chilli powder.
