6 cubes of ice
1 medium size ripe banana (preferably cold)
1 cup (250ml) cold skim milk
1 teaspoon white sugar (optional)
a few drops vanilla essence
a few drops coconut essence (optional)

Method

  1. Place ice cubes into a blender, crush cubes.
  2. Combine all other ingredients in blender and mix until thick. The colder the milk and banana the thicker the smoothie.

Variation: Replace banana with any fruit you like or replace coconut essence with rum essence.

Not suitable to be frozen.

Dietitian's tip

A smoothie for breakfast is quick to prepare and by including a banana it provides extra vitamins.
