8 fun ways to exercise without leaving home

exercise without leaving home

Our body was made to move and when we don’t, it can contribute to weight gain and low moods.

Exercise is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. So, if you’re stuck at home and looking for fun workouts to do that aren’t over the top and won’t break the bank, I’ve got you covered. In this article, I share 8 fun ways to exercise without leaving home.

Get out the frizbee

Yes, this is a fun way to work the upper body. If you can do this for 15-20 minutes you will find your heart rate will pick up and you’ll get a little sweat happening. A fun way to get fit and involve the family or pets.

Throw the ball

This is another fun, easy way to get your heart rate up. Buy one of the kid’s balls that has dimples as they’re easy to throw and catch. Ask another family member to throw the ball back and forwards with you or throw it against a wall. It’s a great way to increase your fitness.

Lift weights

If you don’t have weights, get creative! Look around the house to see what you have on hand. Hey if all else fails, grab a couple of cans of baked beans or tomatoes out of the pantry and include these in your training routine.

Use the stairs

If you have stairs in your home, go up and down these several times in a row. You’ll get a great leg workout, and you’ll notice your heart rate increase because it’s also a good cardio workout.

Skip rope or hula hoop

These two are a blast from the past and both provide a great workout! If you haven’t tried to skip or hula in a while it might be good for a laugh as well. Give it a try and let me know how you go.

Play totem tennis in the backyard

This is a great way to increase your fitness by hitting the ball back and forwards, and you don’t need anyone else with this option so get in the backyard and bash that ball around. You can even buy a soccer ball attachment so you can mix up your workout and kick instead of hit. Best of all these are usually available at Kmart so the price is right.  Time outdoors also provides some much-needed vitamin D.

Do gardening or mow the lawn

Believe it or not, gardening is a great way to burn calories, get fit and, as a bonus, the house gets beautified in the process. It also gets you further away from the pantry and fridge which is a good thing if you’re stuck at home.

Dance or try YouTube workouts

Yes, this is a great way to workout at home, put on your favourite music and dance around or look for a workout on YouTube that’s right for your level. It’s a great no-cost workout and you don’t have to leave the house in your lycra 😊

A final word

As you can see, exercise doesn’t have to be boring. Moving and having fun are great ways to assist with weight loss and improve your state of mind. This in turn will strengthen your resolve to stick with your healthy eating plan to shed those extra kilos that have crept on over winter. How will you add more movement and more fun to your week? Now, add it to your diary to make sure it happens.
