Keeping Hydrated in Winter
Do we need to drink as much water in the colder months? Yes, you do need to be hydrated all year round so don't slacken off at winter time. Instead of drinking cold water why not boil your water and add a wedge of fresh lemon, very refreshing and a fantastic way to help cleanse the body. We can often mistake dehydration for hunger so drink lots of water and not only will your skin, hair and body in general benefit you may find you will be less hungry.
Keep in mind that drinks that contain alcohol or caffeine promote dehydration and actually increase fluid loss. A simple way to know if you are drinking enough water is to check the colour of your urine - if you are drinking enough water it will have little colour to it. If it is yellow this means your body needs more water than you are drinking. I make sure I have a bottle of water with me where ever I go but if you find drinking water a challenge try these tips:
1. Filtered water definitely does have a better taste than tap water
2. Put 2 litres of water in the fridge each day and make sure you drink the whole lot by the end of the day
3. Add diet cordial if you really don't like the taste of water or add a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice
4. Drink soda or mineral water instead
5. Stop buying soft drinks and sports drinks, they are filled with sugar
6. Put a glass near the tap in the kitchen, this way you can fill up every time you go into the kitchen
7. Instead of drinking coffee and tea add a wedge of fresh lemon or lime to boiling water or swap for herbal teas.
8. If you are thirsty it is a sign of dehydration, don't confuse hunger with thirst.
9. Always drink lots of water before, during and after exercise
10. Water flushes the toxins from the body which is vital for wellbeing
